CTC Swansea and West Wales Member Group

Club History

Cyclists Touring Club - Swansea, Part of Cycling UK

A Brief History of the foundation of the CTC - Swansea and West Wales Member Group.

A Swansea Section was established by Des Radford at a meeting in the Ford Social Club in November 1985 with at least thirty members turning up.

January 11th 1986 the first orginised ride; from then on rides were fortnightly and well attended.

During the late eighties John Spooner organized the first Audax event which Des believes was a 200km event, his rides were taken over by Dai Harris when he had to move from the Swansea area.

Des Radford set up Swansea and West Wales DA in 1990 and was the first secretary. Within a year or two formed a section in Pembrokeshire. Tandem, Easy Riders and MTB sections have also been in existence.

In November 2007 the DA and its sections where formed into a Member Group, as directed by CTC Headquarters. Activities have changed little over the years; away days and away weekends are still popular, together with other varied activities arranged by member volunteers. A club ride is a very social non-competitive event enjoyed by a variety of people. Whoever you are we will do our best to make you welcome

In 2016 CTC was re-branded and became Cycling UK
